The Quilt Show

What a wonderful afternoon us ladies had. We had 48 quilts brought in, the oldest was from 1890 and was made just after the Johnstown Flood. The quilt was made by the grandmother of one our members. The family lost everything in the flood and the quilt was one of the first things she did.

Family Quilts...one of the greatest American art forms. Some were done with bits and pieces of scrap fabric, some from old clothes, some very elaborate, a few Amish quilts, and most done with a lot of love.

This picture depicts some of my family quilts. They are the four from the right. The pink one was on my bed when I was little. The one on the left, that has the flowers in the blocks, was done during the War by my grandmother and greatmother as they listened to the radio. The flowers are all hand appliqued. I do use it today.
