This is a Killdeer (and not the ring neck pheasant like all of us in the car thought....thankyou barblaning)... to get this close was pretty amazing. He did act like he had a broken wing, which is part of their modusoperendi (http://www.birdwatching.com/stories/killdeer.html). I also saw a wild turkey today too, but was going to fast to do anything but say "Hey that was a wild turkey".....

Isn't that first bird a killdeer, a plover? They nest in fields and if you accidentally approach the nest, the adult will flutter away as though it had a broken wing. That will lure you (a predator) away from the nest.

Yup....that's what it is! Thanks. I updated the blog for the correct info. I have seen more birds this year that I have had no clue what they are!
