It's Sweeper Day!

Our road and the edge of our yard is full of rocks. It's all the anti-skid that is put on during the winter. The Good Husband has been raking the rocks out of the grass, next resort will be the shop-vac! While the anti-skid has a good purpose, it tracks into the house.

So today is the good day.... the street sweeper is here sucking up the rocks from the road. It's raining today, which is good as there isn't any dust. Spring is on it's way!!!!

They all survived!!!

We started the winter with 11 goldfish.... they were buried for weeks under 4 feet of snow.

The snow is gone....and we have 11 goldfish.....hardy little buggers!!!!

A good sight....

This is the most amount of snow that we have left... not to bad...considering 2 weeks ago the back looked pretty dismal!

The ground is starting to dry out

and the boys next door are playing a little baseball....☺

I can not begin to say how liberating it is to walk outside and not feel surrounded and enclosed!!!

The snowdrops are open...

First I was lucky this year..... I got two snowdrops blooming!!!

Second, I love it when they open and that little touch of SPRING GREEN that is inside.... just in time for St. Patrick's Day too!

They are back!!!!!

The Robins have returned! Oh yes, it truly is SPRING!!!!

I am surprised to find that their return is only a week later that last year!!

My dad has seen two huge "squadrons" of geese flying north.

We had a "warm" night ( it was in the 40's) and we had a lot of snow melt through the night, plus we are having rain. We are concerned now about flooding in the region now. The back yard has a major river going through it today.

But it is a dandy place to get a really good birdy bath!!!

The snowdrop is blooming!!!

I have many favorite flowers....but this little one is my most favorite..... the Snowdrop...
when I bought the blubs the catalog description was "When the snowdrop bloom, it means winter has lost it icy grip on the ground." I fully expected not to see the snowdrop bloom unitl mid-May.... but today it's here!!!! Last year it bloomed on March 4th... so we are only a week off this year.... not too bad I say!!!

The snow is melting, and our bird feeder is showing the progress. (Still can't get to it though)

And the back walkway is showing progress too!!!

It's Melting!!!!!!

We have had GLORIOUS SUNSHINE for the last 5 days..... today it got to 60 degrees!!!!
I left the house with my winter coat...out of habit...and took it off and left it in the car. It has not snowed in a whole week!!! JOY JOY JOY

The "sound of spring" is every where.... you can hear the running water from the melting snow...
We have a steady stream in front at the drive where 5 feet of snow once stood....

The neighbors and the Good Husband have been shoveling the mounds down and putting it back in to the street....except it is melting rather quickly. Today I pulled out of the drive and could actually see up and down the street!!!! That claustrophobic feeling one has ( as in me) with all of this snow has gone!!!!

Mums is going and coming outside now, and enjoys the warm sidewalk. She'll lay on it and flip and flop.

Now this is a good sight....

The pile of snow by the front walk is starting to recede.....mind you it is still 3 feet high, but it is shrinking......

And there they are....... daffodils....buried underneath it all...... God gives us hope in everything!!!

The Sun is out.....☺

Melt baby....melt!!!!!

Friday, March 5, 2010

We have "KITTENS"!!!!!

We may have 80 feet of snow in the yard... but I am determined to find signs of spring.....
Last year on this date we did not even have a melting snow pile and the snow drops bloomed...

BUT.......
today I spied....
KITTENS on our pussywillow!!!!

A true sign of spring.....

We left the mountain yesterday and went east to Altoona. No more than 20 miles....
One good thing to see was the red coming into the trees.
Altoona residents have complained about their snow..... they only have little tiny mounds in their parking lots rather than the Snow Mountain Ranges that we have. Didn't need to wear boots either, as they were all dry.
We saw two exciting things.....
brown grass.....
The purpose of our trip was to look for a snowblower. This winter has our 20 year old model on life support! But no snowblowers to be found..... HOWEVER...... we did see this flock......

The only depressing thing about the trip was having to come home and pulling into our 5 ft snow tunnel!!!!

The chipmunk

The chippie has tunnels through the snow and will pop up just about anyplace....
