It is the Butler's day off...

Posted by Picasa
English movies and TV shows always shows the butler polishing the silver. My favorite butler was Mr. Hudson from "Upstairs, Downstairs". My butler took the day off...30 years ago and I haven't seen him since....
I'm getting things ready for our Family Thanksgiving on Saturday. This silver belonged to my Dad's parents. They were married in 1927, and they got this as a wedding gift. My grandfather came here with his family from Scotland. They were recruited to come and work in the coalmines. My grandmother was from here, but the family was Scottish also. On Armistice Day 1929 (November 11) my granddad was killed in the mine. He left behind my grandmother and a 6 month old son...my dad. My grandfather was 25.
This silver is the only thing left that was theirs. When I set the table I always have something from all of my grandparents. It nice to have them "join us".
