One of my favorite past times... summer theatre. This theatre I have spent many an hour, as I was the stage manager for 40 productions. It is a barn, that was built around 1858. The farm house was torn down a few years ago. One of the things that they farmed was "ice". There is big pond in the back and they would cut ice in the winter and store in under hay for the summer. I have performed not only with actors, but squirrels, cats, a dog, barn swallows, and my very favorite..a bat! (they would just sort of wander through) Oh yes....and one goat "Nelly". I was cast as the nurse in "Mr. Roberts" . In the show we had to have a real goat. Nelly ate the side of the barn! She would also come on stage (the first row of seats is on stage and the stage is center of the barn with seating on both sides) and proceed to eat things from purses, and flowers brought in for cast members. The theatre is named the "J.P.Alexander" Playhouse. He was a dear dear friend and wonderful actor who left this world way to early.
The tree in the front has been there as long as I can remember. When they decided to put a porch and roof on the front of the barn, it was to decided to build around the tree. And so it stands. Last night we went and saw "Tapestry". It was a musical featuring Carole King music.
