Getaway to the Shenandoah- The Cottage

After Winchester, we traveled about 45 minutes to New Market to the Bed and Breakfast. Our friend was staying there and invited us for the weekend. Well I do believe we found a door to Heaven on Earth. The cottage was an old cobbler shop. It and the main house was built in 1850's. The grounds were lovely, just full of all kinds of flowers. The property sat on a bluff overlooking the Shenandoah River... so I hummed the song all weekend. Saturday morning we where greeted with the morning meow of one of the resident cats, who discovered the open window off the roof. The cats where most contented cats I have ever met ( including our late well taken care of Cally).

Miss Virginia, the owner, prepared the most fabulous breakfasts every morning, all different. Each day the meal was served on some different china. (Boy, a real reason to be able to collect dishes!!!). It is off in the country.... off the main road, down a back road, turn on the gravel road, hang a right on the dirt road, get chased by a beagle, say hi to the longhorns,

look at the corn, and watch out for baby bunnies.

We simply could not get over how lovely the place is. And thanks to our friend for asking us to join her... although Thanks just doesn't seem to be adequate.
We spent the day by going to Harrisonburg..visited a quilt museum, and then followed the "Civil War Trails" through Cross Keys and Port Republic.... basically following Jackson on one of his 1862 campaigns. If you want to see any of those shots, leave a comment. There is a tremendous amount of history through the valley, early glory, followed by a lot of saddness.
