This is what my flower pots that I started out May now look like. The three small pots now look like this... The pretty green vining plant is Marguerite Sweet Potato. It really doesn't get any sweet potatoes, but it is a pretty vine. This year I am determined to save some, along with the coleus and keep them going during the winter.
In June we bought two tiny plants for our pond, Water Lettuce. No one told us the plant reproduces faster than rabbits!!!! Holy cow....the pond is full of Water Lettuce. A few floaters of duckweed came with them...I have been fighting duckweed all summer. That stuff reproduces as you watch!!! It looks pretty, but it gets all matte like under the water. And yuk..it is slimy.
We are going to get a aquarium to put the fish in for the winter. We have had to many fish tragedies in the past. I am going to see if I can save a couple of the little water lettuce. We will be bringing them in soon. We have to cover the pond so that it doesn't get all filled up with leaves, and that we will be having to do in a couple of weeks.
Around here we can have frost anytime after Labor Day Weekend. We have had snow in September (6 inches on September 20, 1993... I remember as we had just put our lawn in after we built the house). Usually it is the end of the month/early October. But still, we have to be watchful.
