Went to the little town of Ligonier today. It is known as being a colonial outpost in the 1700's at the edge of the vast wilderness. General Forbes came across and cleared the land to make a road to what is now modern day Pittsburgh. A young George Washington got caught up in some the events, of what is known as the French and Indian War. The aftermath of that trigger the American Revolution. Today the Forbes Road is known as the Lincoln Highway, the first major east to west road. Each town has a "diamond" at the center. If I followed the road east I would end up in Gettysburg.
Today the town had a ice carving festival. This is General Forbes on ice.... The other is a Victorian Era statue and I thought she was pretty.

(a twofer day...the next few days will be busy as the husband is going to have some outpatient surgery)

A good thought for another tour would be Lincoln Highway itself. I'd suggest getting a copy of Brian Butko's "greetings from the Lincoln Highway" to make it more enjoyable.

My favorite stop was the "Ship Hotel and Restuarant". Sadly it burnit down a couple of years ago.
I sure would have liked to see it.
