Pittsburgh

Since I missed yesterday, today is two for day....

Spent the day in Pittsburgh. In order to get into the city from either the west or the east you have to go through "the tunnels"--- the tunnels go through the mountain that was in the way when they built the roads. "The tunnels" cause the traffic to back up during rush hour. I hate driving through "the tunnels" at 60mph. This sequence of pictures I call "Warp Factor 10 Mr. Scott"

The steel mills are all gone. When my grandfather would work in the city he would take an extra shirt to change during the day. The air was that dirty. At night when they would pour steel in Pittsburgh and Johnstown, the sky would be red. You could see it for miles. The mills were all along this river. "They" built a plant that basically consumed the buildings as they tore them down. While the dirt factor is gone, it is sad that we do not have this industry any more.

Tunnels go through the mountain, inclines go up (this was built in the late 1800's.) Pittsburgh is a neat city. This year they are celebrating their 250th.

I thought I commented on your tunnel pics, but I guess I didn't.

How cool! My kids were fascinated by them as well. :-)

I figured that "Warp Factor 10 Mr. Scott" sounded so much better than "Just go to the light"...
