Since it is Sunday...

One of the little old mining towns has this really cool church. It is Ukrainian Catholic, and is modeled after a church "in the old country". There are only two like these in the western hemisphere. We go there every now and then when they have pirohi (perogi) sales. They make ones with sauerkraut and sweet cabbage....just like my grandmother's. Oh the sweet memories, oh my stuffed face.....
And what are pirhoi....they are squares of dough filled with mashed potatoes with longhorn cheese, or sauerkraut, or sweet cabbage, or prunes. They are folded into a triangle, pinched shut, and boiled. They are served with butter, onions, and for me sour cream. They are eastern European. They are soooo good too. My grandmother made the best. As kids we would have contests as to how many you could eat...

These are as good as my grandma's... right now they are better since she's not here to make them anymore. I try making them every so often. I end up with a pot of potato cheese water with big noodles in it!!! LOL
