Us and 300,000 others all decided to do the same thing.
Pittsburgh gets congested easily on a good day. Three lanes of traffic narrow to two to get through the tunnels...and of course drivers slow down in there. We were listening to KDKA radio, and knew that it was gridlock getting into the city because of all the happy celebrants traveling in like us. Additionally the city was closing off exit ramps to get in and around the parade route. Thankfully we listened to our "head voices" and got off the parkway before the tunnels and took the local route in to Oakland, where the University of Pittsburgh is located. Fortunately I know that area from my two previous jobs. We parked near the Cathedral of Learning and then took a bus downtown. We ended up at Grant and Fifth near the old Kaufmann's (now Macy's). Rather that stand near the curb, where I would have never seen anything, we got a good perch in front of an office building. It was cold... 24 degrees with a wind chill of 14. Boy I have certainly spent a lot of days outside in the cold and snow this winter!!!

All of the players had cameras and were recording the parade from their vantage.

The noise was incredible. We were nowhere near the reviewing stands..that would have been sheer lunacy on our part. People were gathering there at 1:30 in the morning! As it was we got to our spot around 11:30 for a parade that started at noon.

By official degree Pittsburgh will be known as "Sixburgh" for 2009.
