Now this is the best part of going to Pittsburgh...now. USRoute 22 goes through my town and into Pittsburgh. We have a fourlane than ends about 7 miles from here...it was finished in 1960. Needless to say the road to Pittsburgh has always been a pain to travel as it was mostly a 2 lane road, with heavy truck traffic. The last mountain to travel is called Penn View and it was a three lane road going along the hill side. It would get pretty tricky in bad weather. Well the good news is "they" are finally completing the 4 lane through the mountains. The project is close to being completed. It is interesting to see how they are cutting the road through the land. The project also required a lot of properties to be bought up. This is the "new road" as it drops into Blairsville, it has replaced the old windy mountain road coming down from Penn View. What is weird for us locals with the new road is trying to figure out just "where you are", as land marks are now gone and the road snakes you through a different spot.
This road improvement is really a wonderful thing, as the trip isn't such a chore anymore. It is going to open up our area. We even have two Steelers building their homes here.
