We took off the Mt. Vernon Tuesday. It was a very cold and windy day. It is almost a 4 hour drive. We went down with our two young WeTravelForHistory friends.
Mt. Vernon was decorated for Christmas. This lovely garland greeted us on arrival. I took this photo, and was laughed at almost all day. It turned out it was really the most festive decoration at the mansion!!!
George was right. He and Jefferson knew how to pick good real estate!
Our friends with George and Martha.
The visitor center and museum were nicely and festively decorated. The trees were lovely.
When George Washington lived at Mt. Vernon, one Christmas he paid to have a camel brought to the estate. Mr. Camel seemed to be rather cold!!!
A recreation of the 1st President Oath of Office. We sure could use a man of George Washington's calliber today!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our young friends on the lawn.
The Good Husband and me. It's hard to believe a week ago this region had 20" of snow. Except for a few piles it was all but gone.
The night before we left, here on top of our mountain it howled and snowed like crazy. Our poor car was mess from the road salt. I think we would have received the "Dirtiest Car in VA" award if they were handing one out.
A comment left by our young friends.....
The little white dot is the December 2009 Blue Moon rising over Mt. Vernon. The next Blue Moon will not be until 2028. I don't think I will still be blogging then...........
I liked this little kitchen scene with the very festive pastry....
