And then they melt

Once the air temp warms up we then get these lovely waterfalls coming from the springs in the hillsides. Believe me the water is very very cold!!! Our area is dotted with old springs that folks still come to with containers to get their water. The underground springs also causes problems in basements. The basement in my first house in town would flood after every heavy rain. It was always clear water coming in. Nothing I could do, just open the drains. I never kept anything on the floor. I had the washer and dyer on cement pad that was built up. Just had the cleanest basement floor though! Even our fairly new home has water that comes in, in one area.
The really bad part about the ice and water coming out of the hillsides, is it causes rock slides. The rocks will break loose and come tumbling down...with no warning. One road in the area has been closed for months, twice in as many years. They road crews hope they have finally stabilized it. Yet we get reports of huge chunks of rock coming down, usually a car can get out of the way... and sometimes not. Try explaining that to the insurance company!!!

Way cool. I love to get ice cold drinks out of those little springs when hiking.

Or, when I used to hike.
