A rerun...

Today was a grey rainy day. While in Johnstown, I noticed the clouds that were hugging the mountain in a strip. It almost looks like there would be a road up there, but there isn't.

I looked back to last year, and found I had almost the same photo that I took on March 3. The truly sad part is I was in the same place for almost the same reason. This time it's my right knee. I had it repaired in Nov 2007, and it has torn again. The doc told me only 2 out of 10 of his patients have that happen! Sure do wish I would have those odds with a lottery ticket!!! So on March 9th, I go back in, and get to do it all over again. I am so excited..............

I bought these shoes right before I did this. I have been wearing the right one for 5 weeks. So I have one dirty broken in shoe, and I one nice and white new shoe.

If I were on vacation...part 8

Our friends have a cabin up on Lake Mooselookmeguntic. The woods is just full of balsam trees. To walk out in the morning and breath deeply the sent of balsam is something to forever remember. At night you can hear the sounds of the loons calling to each other. It is one of my favorite sounds in the whole world

. I love getting up early, just as the mist is lifting from the lake.

For the record, the water is pretty darn cold. About 56 degrees. I look at it, but don't swim in it!!! This huge lake will freeze over totally in the winter.

From the lake we start our two day journey back home. Maine is a truly beautiful state, and one I hope to go back to again and again.

IF I have no more health issues, and lord I hope so (!!), we are going to be making the trip next August for two weeks.

The beautiful Maine coast...


In Maine the mountains meet the sea, and the evergreens go right to the water's edge.

I was so blessed in my growing up years to be able to live in Maine. As a family we really enjoyed it, and still consider it home. Maine is also where I learned to enjoy seafood. When I was in Middle School, Friday was "fish day" for school lunch. My favorite Friday was "Scallop Day"... we would have fried scallops for lunch...image... And being in 8th grade was the best, as we had the last lunch period and were allowed to go back for seconds! My mom was a volunteer in the lunch room and would bring home a bread bag full of the left overs for supper. I sincerely doubt that schools up there serve scallops for lunch now!!! Lobster is good and I do enjoy it, but oh boy do I loved fried clams and scallops!!!!

Last year we stopped at an orchard near Bowdin, Maine. It was all ready for fall...
I just love pumpkins. I like to decorate the house for fall, and I have pumpkins all over the place. I have collected them in all shapes and sizes. So this stop was a lot of fun to photograph.
Hmmm.... maybe I might go off and make a pumpkin pie now........

One of our favorite places to get Lobster Stew is this little inlet..that you have to know exactly where it is. It is a local place, and a lot of folks arrive by boat.

If I were on vacation...part 3

We were going to up and see the US Navy's Blue Angels Tactical Flight Demonstration Team.

These pilots are absolutely amazing. I have seen them off and on since I was a kid, and I am more in awe every time. My usual response to some cool maneuver is "How do they do that"..while upside down, 24 inches apart, at 400 miles an hour. My other response is when I see them go straight up and them hurtle straight down while all six converging at the "center spot" is "If I was in that cockpit, I would probably throwup--if I wasn't out cold!!"

And just a note for the ladies...the flight suits look like they are painted on...not a wrinkle, nor a pudge.

If I were on vacation....Part 2

Since we use to live in Maine, we rarely come into the state on Interstate 95. Rather we cut up through the small towns. We like to enjoy being back.

If I were on Vacation....

Since I am living a rather boring existence right at the moment...

I thought I would share some photographs I took this time last year of our vacation to Maine. So dear readers, I will ,over the next week, post photos of "our trip to Maine".

Today we would have left for Maine. So.............

We choose to do the trip up to Maine in 2 days. (It takes about 10 hours straight through if you travel the horrendous interstates through New York, Connecticut , Massachusetts, and into Portland). We rather do the slower scenic route. Our trip takes us up through the farmland of eastern New York and we cross over and stay the night in Bennington, Vermont. The artist Grandma Moses was from the area, and there is a museum of her work there. There was also a pivotal early battle during our American Revolution, The Battle of Bennington. We then travel the Molly Stark Byway into Maine. Molly was the the wife of a Revolutionary War General. If you have the time "Google" her name. She was a real patriot.

In the older, colonial part of the town is this church. The poet Robert Frost is buried in the church yard cemetery. When ever it comes into view I know I am in New England.

A short leash....

Since I am on a short leash right now, so to speak, I am finding it more interesting to find that daily shot that catches my eye.

Sitting on the back porch in the morning is my favorite part of the day. All of our little "pig birds" are there and quite talkative and thirsty. I call them "pig birds"... as all they do is eat. By rights, the chickadees should weigh 50 pounds based on the amount beed seed they pack away!!!

This "BetsyRoss " flag is out there. The breeze the other morning had it spinning the flower pot every which way. I liked the shadows that came through the flag.

It might as well be Mount Everest....

This being grounded really stinks!!!! There I said it.

I like to work on craft projects and my jewelry . The room with everything in it is up there. The Good Husband will gladly run and get stuff, but only I know where things are. So I've been trying to plan the day before I come down in the morning...yes the bedroom is up there too! The weather is nice, so I can at least enjoy the back porch. I am so trying not to whine about this....... The really hard part to swallow is not being able to take our wonderfully planned trip up to Maine....that about makes me cry.

My happy thought is I only have 24 more days to go....

I am truly not happy at the moment

Over the last week I have had major pain while walking. It turns out I have broken a bone in my foot. Don't know where or how I did this. So I've got this this on for a month, with orders to be still (Me still????)... this has caused us to cancel our vacation to Maine in a few weeks. I was told if I don't do this right, they will have to surgically fix it. So I have a broken foot, no vacation, and a Herman Munster shoe. Life is just peachy......
